A Quebec man faces numerous charges after he resisted a police check early this morning outside of Mattawa.

MOTORIST RESISTS POLICE IN MATTAWA
(Mattawa, Ont.)
Mattawa OPP had their hands full while doing their job in the early hours Thurs. January 8th, 2004. While on patrol, Const. Chris Dugas investigated a Pontiac minivan parked by the old Bretons Gas Bar east of Mattawa on Highway 17.
Shortly before 2:00 a.m., Constable Dugas checked the lone male in the vehicle who began to resist the officer. Backup officers arrived to assist Dugas and appropriate use of force options were used to place the party in custody. The suspect and police officers were not injured in the incident.
Marc-Patrice Simard, 40, of Clermont, Quebec is charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada (C.C.C.) offenses:
1) Assault police Section 270(1)(a) C.C.C.
2) 2 counts of Resist/Obstruct Police Officer Section 129(a) C.C.C.
3) Drive While Disqualified Section 259(4)(a) C.C.C.
4) Fail to Provide Breath Sample Section 254(5) C.C.C.
5) Impaired Driving Section 253(a) C.C.C.
6) Breach of Probation Section 733.1(1) C.C.C.
Simard is in custody and will appear in court for a bail hearing today at the Ontario Court of Justice, 360 Plouffe Street, North Bay, Ontario.
