"North Bay Police Service and OPP are aware and currently there are no threats to schools in our district," reads a "non-urgent" letter to families issued just after 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
"Our schools are operating normally. There is no need to call the school regarding this matter. Should the situation change, under the direction of our police partners, we will notify families," the letter concludes.
TimminsToday reports that Timmins-area schools are closed today due to a reported bomb threat. Conseil scolaire catholique de district des Grandes Rivières said on Facebook that an overnight bomb threat has closed all its schools in the district. Schools in the Northeastern Catholic District School Board and District School Board Ontario North East are also closed across the region, according to notices emailed to parents citing "safety concerns."
Following direction from the OPP, NCDSB also closed its board office due to an "emergency situation relating to student and staff safety."
The boards cover a vast area in northeastern Ontario. The catchment areas vary slightly for each board but generally extend from Hearst to Temiskaming Shores to Timmins.
