2023 Nipissing University Homecoming.

Nipissing University’s annual Homecoming Weekend is set to take place this weekend, September 20–22, and the whole community is invited to take part.

Homecoming 2024 promises a packed schedule of activities and opportunities for alumni, students, faculty, staff, and community to reconnect and celebrate what it means to be a Laker.

“Homecoming Weekend is always a special time for our alumni to return to campus to reminisce and reconnect with the Nipissing and North Bay communities,” said Bridgette Perron, alumni relations coordinator at Nipissing University. “Seeing familiar faces and hearing their stories is what makes this weekend so meaningful. Whether you are a recent graduate, community member, Lakers fan, or have been part of the Nipissing family for decades, all are invited to join the festivities.”

The weekend kicks off Friday afternoon, with a bonfire and Medicine Walk hosted by the Office of Indigenous Initiatives, followed by the Lakers men’s hockey game at Memorial Gardens and post-game bar night at The Boat. Admission to the hockey game is free and all are welcome.

Saturday will feature family-friendly events such as KidZone activities and lawn games, along with a Homecoming BBQ, varsity soccer matches and an evening lacrosse game. Alumni with a grad year ending in four or nine, will receive commemorative alumni-branded beer glasses at the Alumni Pub Night, hosted at Gateway City Brewery, where live music and local brews will take centre stage. Saturday will close out with more celebrations and opportunities to connect at On the Rocks Nightclub at the NUSU Student Centre.

On Sunday, the Lakers women’s and men’s soccer teams will face off against Ontario Tech, wrapping up what promises to be an unforgettable weekend.

Kevin Wamsley, Nipissing's president and vice-chancellor, encourages alumni and the community to participate. “Homecoming is a great opportunity to showcase the shared pride we have for Nipissing, our community, and the lasting relationships that have been formed here. We can’t wait to welcome back our alumni for this action-packed weekend.”
