On Saturday, November 19, North Bay sports fans will have the opportunity to get to know one of CBC’s most recognized sports journalists during “An Evening with Dr. Scott Russell” as part of Nipissing University’s annual Homecoming Weekend celebrations, November 18–20, 2022.
Russell will sit down with Nipissing University President and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Kevin Wamsley, to talk about some of his favourite, most memorable and challenging moments throughout his life and career.
A Canadian Screen Award and Gemini Award-winning broadcaster and acclaimed author, Scott Russell brings vast experience, passion, and knowledge to his role as one of the hosts of CBC Sports’ Road to the Olympic Games. A CBC Sports veteran of more than 25 years, Scott Russell has covered 15 Olympic Games as well as the Pan Am Games, Commonwealth Games and FIFA World Cups.
“Scott is always interviewing other people, so it’s my pleasure to turn the tables and host a conversation with Scott Russell, about Scott Russell,” states Wamsley.
“This is our community’s opportunity to learn more about one the of top broadcasters in the world.”
The event will take place at the NUSU Student Centre and is open to the public. Tickets are $50 and include dinner. Cocktails will start at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:15 p.m. and the main event at 7:15 p.m.

During the event, Russell will also be formally hooded by the university to commemorate the honorary degree he received from the institution in 2020 during the pandemic.

Other Homecoming Weekend events include a bonfire and luminary walk, Lakers varsity sports action, Alumni Awards reception, guided campus tours, KidZone activities and an open skate.
