Students in those bright yellow shirts are back!
Hundreds of students will be spread out across eight locations on Saturday, September 3 to raise money and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis Canada. Nipissing University Student Union (NUSU) has been raising money for this cause over the past 24 years.
"Shine Day has become an event our students look forward to throughout orientation every year," said Harikesh Panchal, NUSU VP Advocacy & Awareness. "We all get to wear neon shirts, work in teams, and meet amazing community members all in the name of raising money for Cystic Fibrosis,"
Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is the most common fatal genetic disease affecting Canadian children and young adults. It is estimated that one in every 3,600 children born in Canada has CF.
It is an inherited disorder that causes severe damage to the lungs, digestive system and other organs in the body.
Cystic fibrosis affects the cells that produce mucus, sweat, and digestive juices. These secreted fluids are normally thin and slippery. But in people with CF, a defective gene causes the secretions to become sticky and thick.
The goal this year is to raise $10,000.
Panchal added, "To date, we have raised over $480,000 for CF and look forward to raising more money this coming weekend."
