Nipissing University students and faculty are celebrating the198th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birth date with a series of events during the week of February 12 - 16.

Biology Professor, Dr. Peter Nosko, will be leading an illustrative presentation on Charles Darwin’s theories and adventures titled, On the Origin of Darwin’s Garden. The presentation takes place on Monday, February 12 at 7 p.m. in room H104.

Nosko’s presentation will feature photos from his recent trip through the Galapagos Islands, exploring places that were important in the cultivation and creation of Darwin’s ideas about life on earth. Darwin is considered the father of evolutionary biology

On February 13, Nipissing Biology graduate, Julie Robinson will be hosting a talk, titled The Limestone Barrens of Newfoundland: A real life conservation story. The talk takes place at 1 p.m. in room A241. Robinson is currently a Master of Science student, studying at Memorial University of Newfoundland.

The Newfoundland barrens are famous for their rare and unusual plants that are partially attributed to its geographic location, climate and geology.

The Nipissing University Cultural Affairs Committee and the Nipissing University Biology Society are hosting the two lectures.

In addition to those events, the Biology Society will be hosting their traditional Darwin’s birthday pub celebration at 100 George’s on February 15 at 9 p.m.

Each event is open to the public and free of charge.
