As its homicide investigation continues, the North Bay Police Service is confirming the victim of an early January 1 stabbing as 29-year-old Jeff Twain of North Bay.
Shortly after 2:30 a.m. Friday, North Bay Police and Nipissing Paramedic Services responded to a location on the 1100 block of Jane Street regarding a person in need of medical help. Police found the victim on the side of Jane Street, next to a snowbank. He was rushed by ambulance to the North Bay Regional Health Centre where he was pronounced dead.
Later Friday morning, a witness told BayToday, police searched in snowbanks and under cars looking for evidence. A canine unit and drone were also deployed. NBPS appealed for surveillance camera footage and any additional information from the public.
NBPS says officers have completed several interviews and the forensic identification unit is processing several relevant items that have been seized as a result of the investigation.
Saturday morning, NBPS announced it had arrested and charged an Orleans, Ont., man in relation to the homicide. The accused, Ghislain Nsengiyumva, 20, remains in custody and is charged with second degree murder in Twain's death.

Police believe the incident began at a house party on Gormanville Road where they say violent acts by the accused led to an altercation involving at least two women and Twain. NBPS says the accused and victim later had the fatal interaction on Jane Street.
Police Chief Scott Tod offered condolences and sympathies to the Twain family for their loss on behalf of all the members of the North Bay Police Service.
"The North Bay Police Service will continue to investigate this murder and dedicate all our resources necessary to support the prosecution of the person responsible for this horrendous crime in our community," stated Tod. "We thank the members of the public and nearby neighbours who assisted the police, and other emergency services partners, responding to this crime for their support and willingness to assist in providing information."
Jeff Twain's friends have organized Giving Jeff Peace, a GoFundMe page to help with memorial costs.
