The first recycling days of the new year will look the same — there will be no changes to recycling collection or schedules — when you put your blue box(es) out at the curb but the contact information for blue box inquiries has changed.
The City of North Bay is reminding citizens that starting January 1, 2025, North Bay’s recycling program will be managed by Circular Materials (CMO), the administrator of the common recycling collection system in Ontario.
During this transition, the current collection day, items eligible to be placed into the blue boxes, and the standardized bin requirements will not change.
The only change for residents is that they will have a new contact for blue box-related questions or concerns. For all recycling-related questions, including missed or incomplete collection, the new contact is GLF Environmental at 1-888-796-4352 or [email protected].

Ontario is transitioning to an extended producer responsibility model in which the businesses that sell packaging and paper products to consumers will be financially and operationally responsible for collecting, processing and recycling those materials.
According to Circular Materials, "Under the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act, 2016, Ontario’s Blue Box Regulation shifts responsibility for the Blue Box Program to the organizations that produce products and packaging. Under the old system, communities shared the costs.
Communities began transitioning their Blue Box programs as of July 1, 2023, to this new extended producer responsibility framework, where producers are responsible for funding and operating the recycling system.
"Once the transition to the new framework is complete in 2026, producers will be fully accountable and financially responsible for recycling the products and packaging that end up in recycling bins."
What won't change for residents is the ability to use the City of North Bay's recycling app and digital and hard copies of the waste and recycling calendars for 2025. See below:
