The average snow depth of 71cm measured at the three snow survey sites in the area has set a new snow depth record for this time of year.
The record high measurements come from the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority which has been taking measurements since 1988.
“The average snow depth for all sites is 71cm (172% normal) and average water equivalence is 110.7 mm (136% normal),” said Joel Harrison NBMCA’s Water Resources Scientist in a release.
The average snow depth at this time of year in 2018 was 37.9 cm and water equivalence was 64.3 mm.
Snow is measured for depth and water equivalence at three locations in the watershed including locations at the North Bay Golf and Country Club on Airport Hill, the Corbeil Conservation Area, and Shirley Skinner Conservation Area (Chisholm).
