The City of North Bay has opened up the Thomson Park skate park to the public and it now includes a brand new halfpipe at the location behind Memorial Gardens.
The park opened officially on Tuesday as city crews took down the fencing surrounding the skate park.
Back in September of 2019, North Bay city council approved a $98,000 contract to create the new halfpipe for skateboarder enthusiasts.
The City of North Bay is allowing skateboarders to use the facility while playgrounds continue to be closed.
Gord Young, Communications Officer for the city says users will need to use common sense at the facility.
"The hold for opening earlier in May was due to the provincial restrictions," said Young.
"We are still telling people if you use the park, you need to social distance and congregating in groups of more than five is not permitted and the COVID-19 protocol is still in place."
Young says police will be monitoring the location.
"People have been pretty good following the rules," Young noted about traffic around playgrounds.

The North Bay police have only issued one large fine to a North Bay woman for breaking the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act back in late April.
Young says Police have mostly handed out warnings to members of the public congregating in area parks.
