New charges laid after investigation into Highway 11 crash

Two Hamilton residents already charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault facing a total of 39 new charges

OPP say two people are under arrest after this stolen vehicle was linked to other crimes.

Two Hamilton residents are facing additional charges in a May incident that ended with crash on Highway 11 involving a stolen vehicle and attempted murder suspects.

On May 31, Temiskaming OPP were investigating a stolen vehicle on Highway 11 in Harley Township just south of Temiskaming Shores. Police say the accused people allegedly committed multiple break-ins and thefts in the surrounding area.

Police later responded to a single-vehicle accident on Highway 11, south of Latchford involving the suspects. One person was taken into custody at the scene while a second person fled the area on foot and was arrested a short time later.

During a theft in Dack Township near Englehart, police said there was an altercation between the suspects and a homeowner, who was assaulted and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The day after the incident, 32-year-old Colton Davies and 25-year-old Vanessa Jones, both of Hamilton, were charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault. Davies was also charged with uttering threats - to cause death or bodily harm.

Following an investigation, police have laid additional charges.

The new charges Davies is facing are:

  • Robbery and wounding
  • Two counts of flight from a peace officer
  • Dangerous operation
  • Eight counts of operation while prohibited
  • Four counts of theft of a motor vehicle
  • Four counts of break, enter a place - commit an indictable offence
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 
  • Eight counts of disobeying a court order
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - methamphetamine 
  • Possession of schedule I substance - methamphetamine

The new charges against Jones are:

  • Robbery and wounding 
  • Flight from a peace officer 
  • Two counts of theft of a motor vehicle
  • Two counts of break, enter a place - commit an indictable offence 
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

Both of the accused are in police custody waiting for a bail hearing. They are scheduled to appear in a Temiskaming Shores court at a later date.
