Callander is preparing for a new sign, a large entrance sign to replace the current one on Highway 11 North. Council and staff are close to releasing the 2024 budget, and installing a new sign is on the list for suggested capital projects.
Municipal staff estimate the new sign will cost around $50,000, and the requested budget line would reflect that estimate. Staff anticipate the project will begin in early June.
The current sign, staff lament, “is a worn and poorly placed wooden sign in need of replacement.” The new sign will look “exactly” like the one installed just past Cranberry Road on the west side of Pinewood Park Drive. The new sign will also have solar powered lighting.
The project is a high priority for the municipality, and “has been slated for completion for many years,” staff noted in a report to council. The Pinewood Park Drive sign was completed in early September of 2022, for a total cost of $34,525.

“The current sign is showing signs of wear and is in a poor location,” staff added, noting the municipal sign on the highway stands “behind another sign and is not on the municipal boundary.” It also lacks the new municipal logo, and in general, “is not eye catching,” staff said.
