Battalion star defender Ty Nelson will be heading overseas to Sweden after all.

This afternoon Hockey Canada announced that Ty Nelson has been added to the roster due to a pair of injuries by rostered defenceman Tanner Molendyk and Tristan Luneau cannot play in the tournament due to injury.

Brantford Bulldogs defenceman Jorian Donovan was a late addition yesterday as he dressed today in Canada's 6-5 overtime loss against the USA in their second pre-tournament contest.

Nelson and Battalion goaltender Dom DiVincentiis were both cut from Team Canada's world junior evaluation camp which wrapped up on December 13 in Oakville.

“I’m sure I speak for all of North Bay in saying the world juniors just got a lot more personal,” said Battalion general manager Adam Dennis on Battalionhockey.com.

“This is a huge thrill for Ty and the rest of our organization, and we couldn’t be prouder. We look forward to watching him represent the red and white.”

Nelson, the 19-year-old Kraken prospect, recorded 12 goals and 19 assists over 28 games so far this season with the Battalion.

The  2024 IIHF World Junior Championship, Dec. 26-Jan. 5 in Gothenburg, Sweden and Team Canada opens the tournament at 8 a.m. ET on Boxing Day as they face Finland.

The last Battalion player to compete for Team Canada at the World Juniors was Nick Paul, as he captured gold with a stacked Team Canada roster in 2015, which included current NHL stars Connor McDavid, Sam Reinhart, Josh Morrissey and Bo Horvat.

A pair of North Bay area goaltenders have captured gold with Team Canada's World Junior team including Corbeil's Ben Gaudreau last year and Colton Point in 2018.
