Nipissing--Timiskaming NDP
News Release

Dianna Allen has accepted the Federal NDP nomination for the riding of Nipissing--Timiskaming. Ms. Allen, a small business owner and health care professional for more than 20 years, has been an active volunteer in The North. A member of the McKellar Library Board, and a volunteer at the Stockey Centre, Ms Allen also supports many social justice causes including homelessness, international disaster relief and amnesty international.
Dianna Allen has a broad range of experience to bring to her role of political candidate. In the past, she has conducted essential research for Doctors Without Borders, submitted a report on research misconduct in public/private health care to the Romanow Commission, and was a analyst for risk management at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto. Ms. Allen was also a critical care nurse at Toronto Western Hospital for many years.
"I am thrilled to have this opportunity to bring the *New
Democrats'*message to the people of Nipissing-Timiskaming." says Allen. "The NDP is the party that best reflects the values of Northerners. We fight for the
issues that are talked about around the kitchen table, not just the boardroom table. Anthony Rota and the rest of the Liberals should be ashamed of themselves for supporting the Conservative agenda of *corporate* tax cuts
while gutting our national programs through 41 confidence votes. The NDP has been fighting for the things that matter, like health care, the environment and jobs. The disappointed people of Nipissing Timiskaming expected Mr. Rota to stand up for *them*, not just big banks and oil companies."
In 1996 at the University of Toronto Dianna won the Abella Prize in Canadian History. Now she is working on her MA in Ministry & Spirituality, and is an active member and volunteer at the Trinity Anglican Church in Parry Sound.
Ms. Allen, along with her husband, Douglas, own and operate The Blackwater Lake Guest House in McKellar.
The Campaign Kick Off will be this Sunday, 1-2:30 at the OPSEU Union Hall, 573 Fraser Street in North Bay.
