A large stretch of Main Street will be closed this weekend while the Bay Block Party is underway and the Making Over Main Street project continues.
Starting Friday at noon and extending until Saturday at midnight, Main Street will be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic between Ferguson and Algonquin Avenue, says a news release from the City. This closure also includes Fraser Street, spanning from Oak to McIntyre Street. Pedestrian access to these areas will remain open.
Add to that, the block of Main Street between Wyld and Ferguson streets has already been closed to traffic as part of the Making Over Main Street reconstruction project. This section, though inaccessible to vehicles, also remains accessible to pedestrians.
Main Street, between Sherbrooke and Wyld streets, has been fully reopened to both vehicles and pedestrians.
Signs and barricades will be in place this weekend and throughout the project indicating detour routes and to direct pedestrians.
For those planning to visit downtown, parking is available in Lot 2 (Oak Street), Lot 4 (Parking Garage), and Lot 10 (behind the Transit Terminal). Available spots in Lot 2 will be limited on Friday and Saturday while a portion of the lot is in use by the Bay Block Party. Two hours of free parking is available in these lots on weekdays.
There is no charge for parking on weekends.
