Ontario's Re-opening plans did not mean the North Bay Police Service has stopped monitoring large public gatherings.

The North Bay Police Service once again confirmed it was watching over the North Bay Freedom Rally which took place this Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the North Bay Waterfront.

The group, Northern Freedom Alliance, has been holding rallies starting in April and taking place every two weeks promoting freedom of speech and questioning the vaccine rollout, as part of its anti-lockdown agenda.

"As with previous rallies, in order to ensure officer and public safety and prevent the spread of COVID-19 tickets were not issued at the scene," stated David Woolley, Corporate Communications Officer with the North Bay Police Service.

"The North Bay Police Service has issued a total of 41 tickets and served 10 summons to individuals for violations of the Reopening Ontario Act in relation to previous gatherings."

Woolley says the Police Service identified those involved using information gathered from observing the previous rallies.

"Members of the NBPS issued charges to individuals at their places of residence," noted Woolley.
