The North Bay District MNR is advising area residents that a Watershed Conditions Statement - Flood Outlook is in effect in the district until Tuesday.
"Residents in the North Bay District area should keep a close watch on conditions and exercise caution around rivers and streams," says the statement. "Please alert and monitor any children under your care to possible dangers and supervise their activities. The forecasted precipitation over the weekend could cause local flooding in low-lying areas. The ministry is closely monitoring the weather and developing watershed conditions."
A Colorado low-pressure system is moving through the province today and tomorrow, bringing snow, freezing rain/ice pellets and rain to the North Bay District.
Southern reaches of the district are expected to receive snow, freezing rain, and ice pellets with up to 15cm of snow and 15mm of rain falling between this evening and throughout Saturday.
Northern reaches of the district are expected to receive snow with amounts reaching up to 25cm during the same period.
All areas of the district will see precipitation ending later in the day on Saturday. Daytime temperatures from now into next week will hover around the freezing mark with nighttime temperatures staying close to freezing Friday night and around -15°C Saturday night.
"Significant snowpack remains across the district and lakes are still frozen. Warmer weather and rainfall will see rivers and streams respond accordingly. Snowmelt and rainfall expected today and tomorrow could result in potential flooding in low-lying areas with a history of flooding," says the statement.
Residents in these areas are encouraged to monitor conditions and prepare accordingly.
