Al McDonald says it’s not 100 per cent but it is close enough that the city can announce that a new Canadian company with ties to South Africa is planning to construct a state-of-the-art technological and environmentally-advanced hot-dip Galvanizing plant.
Norgalv Limited, formed just 10 months ago, is expected to build a 32,500 square foot facility worth $21 million in the Airport Industrial Business Park.
The good news announcement was the highlight of a very short North Bay City Council meeting Tuesday night.
“We are very pleased that the Norgalv Limited team has selected North Bay as the future home for their new galvanizing facility,” stated Mayor Al McDonald.
“This new investment represents another important step in continuing to grow North Bay.”
The land purchase will enable the construction of the new facility, which will service Northern Ontario's mining supply and service industry and support business opportunities throughout the province.
“Our facility will be the only one of its kind in Northern Ontario and we look forward to serving the mining, manufacturing, construction and civil markets from our state-of-the-art facility in North Bay,” said Andre Van Soelen, Managing Director of Norgalv Limited in a release.
“The City and community have been very supportive of our project and we are eager to join the local business community once operational in 2020.”
Norgalz is expecting to hire as many as 45 employees.
McDonald believes once operational, this business will help attract even more related businesses in the future.
“This business will attract other businesses with it because of the services that they provide,” said McDonald.
“A lot of times companies that need this product are having to go to Toronto or elsewhere to the bigger centres and now there is going to be a company in northern Ontario that can provide the material.”
