As a result of a criminal investigation, Mattawa OPP along with members of the Tactical Response Unit, Emergency Response Unit, Crime Unit, Canine, and Highway Safety Division responded to a barricaded person at a residence located on Sixth Street in the town of Mattawa, Ontario in the early morning hours of Wednesday, February 25th, 2009.

Michael LAFRAMBOISE, 41 years old, of Mattawa, Ontario barricaded himself following an earlier incident involving a criminal offence. After negotiations with officers, LAFRAMBOISE surrendered himself shortly after 11:30 a.m. today (February 25th, 2009).

LAFRAMBOISE is charged with one count of Assault as per section 266 and one count of Criminal Harassment as per section 264(2) (b) of the Criminal Code. LAFRAMBOISE is in custody and being held for bail hearing in North Bay.

OPP confirming that OPP have cordoned off Sixth Street in Mattawa at this time as a suspect in a criminal investigation has barricaded himself in his Sixth Street home following an attempted arrest Tuesday night.

“The area is contained with members of the OPP Tactical Response Unit, Crime Unit and Detachment officers,” North Bay Community Services OPP Officer Carolle Dionne confirms in a note to BayToday.

“The officers are containing the area for public and the individual's safety at this time.”

“There is a school in the area, Ste-Anne and they have been notified and are in semi-lockdown -- meaning no outdoor activities, all doors to school are locked and classes are as scheduled.”

Dionne says information will be made available as it is known.
