Timiskaming – Cochrane NDP MPP John Vanthof slammed the government on highway safety amid increasingly dangerous conditions in northern Ontario due to "negligence and inexperienced commercial drivers" during Question Period today.

"Our highways in northern Ontario, particularly Highways 11 and 17, have seen multiple road closures and devastating accidents over the last few days weeks, including a six-transport pileup on Highway 11” said Vanthof “This isn’t just a matter of winter maintenance; it’s about ensuring all drivers, especially commercial drivers, are properly trained to handle northern winter conditions.”

“Families across northern Ontario deserve to have safe and reliable roads. They shouldn’t have to fear for their loved ones’ safety every time they travel these highways. Making sure that every driver with an Ontario license is qualified, properly trained, and safe on the roads is a fundamental responsibility of the government."

Vanthof finished with "Why won’t this government take Northern highway safety seriously?"
