Powassan is about to start some major improvements to its Main St.

The Province will spend more than $1.4 million for the rehabilitation of Main Street North. Work will include a 2.3-kilometer section from the Valley View East Intersection to the North Powassan Entrance.

Work will involve the removal of the existing damaged curb, sidewalk, and gutter, excavation interior to the roadway, pulverization, the placement of new granular materials, paving, and the replacement of curb, gutter, and sidewalk according to a news release from the town.

Engineering work will start shortly, with final work to be completed by next year.

The money comes from a Top-Up Application-based component of the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund.

“The Municipality of Powassan is extremely happy to be announcing this project, said Mayor Peter McIsaac. "Main Street North has been the number one capital project on our Road Needs Study for many years."
