The annual Hershey’s Giant Easter Egg Hunt hosted by Discovery North Bay was a huge hit at Thompson Park today.

Kids lined up in the hundreds to dash across the football field filling their baskets with Easter treats along the way.

Discovery North Bay Director, Ed Driedger, said that although prior to the gates opening this morning about 150 wristbands had been sold the committee anticipated at least another 250 would be sold at the gates.

“Easter weekend it’s a holiday for kids in a lot of ways and it’s great to have a lot of kids out and it’s wonderful to see them come with parents and grandparents.”

Today marked the 8th year the committee has hosted the event and Driedger says although the event started as a small idea and that title sponsor wasn’t involved at first, the museum couldn’t continue without their help.

“We thought there might be some long term potential for it and we approached Hershey and certainly they were interested in knowing the details of what we were running here since that day forward they’ve been very supportive of the project.”

“It’s a great fundraiser, it’s a happy thing to come out you get lots of chocolate, so far we’ve had good weather a little cool today, but it’s a great thing and really without the support of Hershey there is no way we could do this, it’s fantastic.”

The money raised from the Egg Hunt are directed back to museum operations that cover everything from educational programs to the actual exhibits.

“It’s an excellent boost in the arm for us as we head into the spring and summer season,” states Driedger.
