Local WWE wrestler pinned by North Bay Sports Hall of Fame

A former local WWE wrestler has taken a stranglehold on a spot in the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame. 

The North Bay Sports Hall of Fame announced the upcoming induction of Lance Evers into the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday, May 6.

A multi-sport athlete growing up, Lance Evers decided to follow his dream and thus embarked on a 14-year career in the world of professional wrestling. During that time, he was part of many professional wrestling organizations, competing in 9 provinces in Canada, 49 states in the United States, as well as international locations around the world. What began as a fun match he set up with his friends, Evers (wrestling as Lance Storm) went on to win 10 different professional wrestling championships, 6 individual championships including the prestigious WWE Intercontinental belt as well as holding a record three individual championships at the same time.

During his career, he was also part of a team that won four WWE tag team championships. In the professional wrestling world, Evers competed against the top names in the business, including Rick Flair, Hulk Hogan, The Rock and the Undertaker. Aside from the opportunity to face those wrestlers, one highlight for Evers was the opportunity to wrestle Terry Funk, a person that he had looked up to for a long time. Another highlight of his career was claiming the WWE United States tag team title with his partner, Christian, as they defeated Edge and Hulk Hogan.

From 2001 to 2003, as the women’s division championship was being re-introduced, it piqued Evers’ interest and therefore he is credited with playing a significant role in the growth of the women’s sport. It speaks to his character in that there was a need for coaching and mentoring and he gave of his time and talent that was an integral step in the women’s program being what it is today.

Upon his retirement, he became the head trainer in the WWE development program, followed by the opening of his own Wrestling Academy in 2005. Matching his physical ability, professionalism, and mental capacity so necessary in this sport, Lance Evers not only fought some of the biggest names in the world of professional wrestling, he became one of them as well.

Lance Evers will be inducted at the 42nd Annual Induction and Awards Dinner to be held at the Davedi Club on Saturday, May 6th, 2023.
