We were impressed when a North Bay angler sent in this picture of his big catch.

Erik Doucet, a Major with C Flt Comd, 21 AC&W Sqn was fishing last month with an 8lb test line, using a jig, and caught the fish in Trout Lake off Peninsula Road in approximately 120 ft of water.

"It was caught on the last day of the short one-week season on Trout Lake. I was alone when it hooked-on and I needed to yell to another boat to get them to help me pull it on board. I fought it for 30-45 minutes.

"As I intended to live-release it quickly, I gave my cell phone to the guys to quickly take a few pictures and I put it back in the water. It swam away happily. During the event, the guys who helped took pictures with their phones but I didn't get their contact info. If I could get in touch with them and see their pictures, we should be able to get a better estimate of this fish's weight. It was measured for length only; it was 39 inches (1m).

Doucet says he has caught 25 lb lakers before in Cold Lake, AB, and a friend caught a 34 lb laker that same year at the same location.

In 2010, he also caught a 86 cm walleye in Alberta.
