Local goalie wins at high profile Brick Tournament

'This experience has been awesome to play in the Brick and win'

North Bay's Campbell Stickland is coming home a Brick Tournament champion.

Campbell played goal for the Montreal Canadiens Brick Tournament team which is a high-profile event that takes place every summer in Edmonton and includes some of North America's best 10-year-old hockey players.

The tournament has a long list of NHL players who competed in the summer event including Quinn Hughes, Trevor Zegras, Mark Stone, and local Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Lucas Edmonds to name a few.

Stickland's squad finished a perfect 8-0 and Stickland was between the pipes in the tournament final as the Canadiens defeated Team Minnesota 7-4.

"This experience has been awesome to play in the Brick and win," Campbell told BayToday via text.

"It is the first time for the Quebec Brick to win - it is amazing!  My teammates are amazing!"

Stickland, who has been traveling to Montreal to train with his spring team, believes his skating ability as a goaltender is what helped him get selected for the Montreal team.

"As a taller, more athletic goalie, my skating gets me to more positions to make saves," said Stickland prior to the tournament.

Stickland who is on the U12 AAA Trappers team as an underage, was joined at the event by defenceman Jackson Ross who played for the Toronto Bulldogs. Ross's highlight was scoring an overtime winner for his Bulldogs squad which went 3-3 at the tournament.

Justin Carre, U12 AAA Trappers head coach, who also coached these two boys to a NOHA tournament of champions title in the spring of 2023, is excited for the two young local players.

"To have two local kids selected to play in this tournament speaks volumes about minor hockey development in North Bay," he said.

"Jackson and Campbell have put in an incredible amount of work over the past two seasons and it’s really great to see them rewarded with this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play in the prestigious Brick Hockey Tournament with the top 2013-born kids from North America."
