The NDP Nipissing-Temiskaming Federal Riding Association says two people, a man and a woman, have put their names forward to represent the Party in the federal election expected this spring
The candidate will be decided at a membership meeting scheduled for late February.
Valerie Kennedy
"With over 40 years of leadership in northern Ontario, including her work with Ontario Northland Railway, Valerie Kennedy has always prioritized her community," says the release.
"As a dedicated representative of Unifor members, she has served as both chair and vice president, advocating for workers across North Bay, Timiskaming, Hearst, Cochrane, Moosonee, and Rouyn-Noranda. Valerie’s career reflects her unwavering commitment to fairness, opportunity, and progress.
"Valerie is passionate about tackling key issues such as affordable housing, better healthcare, bold climate action, and reconciliation with Indigenous peoples. As the NDP candidate, she envisions Nipissing-Timiskaming as a more inclusive, sustainable, and fair community. Valerie is ready to bring Northern Ontario’s voice to Ottawa."
Riley X.T. McEntee
"Riley X. T. McEntee was born and raised in Huntsville and has been a North Bay resident for the past five years," says the release.
" He is a graduate of Nipissing University, with an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy and Political Science. He currently works as a Residence Life Supervisor at Nipissing University where he supervises and supports student staff. Before this, he was the Nipissing University Student Union president for two years. While there, he advocated for change and sought to help many; this is a passion he continues in his new role and one he hopes to bring to Parliament Hill someday.
"Riley’s core values are centred on compassion, care, and ethics. If you were to ask him what his life’s mission is, he’d say: 'to make the world a better place, and to hopefully buy some nice wine along the way.' He combines his fiery ambition with his deep sense of empathy to invoke change when he sees inequities and injustices. He plans to take this passion into law in the future, working as a lawyer in either human rights, treaty rights, or labour rights."
