Local family sharing its nostalgic Christmas tree with North Bay

'It makes us feel better that the tree can be reused to make more memories for others, as it has been a huge part of our family's memory. We would light it up every year while raising our children who are now adults'

The Pavone family has turned some horticultural heartache into a special holiday story this season.

Looking out at the yard of the family's Pinewood home, patriarch Lucio Pavone immediately notices the landscape has changed but is pleased the absence of their 30-year-old blue spruce will bring joy to many more families as the holiday season officially gets underway with the Old-Fashioned Christmas Walk in Downtown North Bay.

"The tree was not doing so well," Pavone shares. "We reached out to Eagle Tree Service and they determined that it was not healthy and gave us an option to donate it to the city as the annual Christmas Tree. The tree will be part of the lighting ceremony this Friday.

"It makes us feel better that the tree can be reused to make more memories for others, as it has been a huge part of our family's memory. We would light it up every year while raising our children Kayla, Alexandra and Christina, who are now adults."
