Core members of L’Arche assisted by Nipissing MP Monique Smith and Mayor Al McDonald cut the ribbon and officially opened the organization’s newest community home.
L’Arche North Bay celebrated a milestone Sunday as they opened the Kara Foyer Residence at 361 & 369 McPhail Street.
L’Arche provides homes and supports to individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities so that they are able to live independent, meaningful and productive lives.
Former North Bay resident and L’Arche Ontario President Susan Houghton says the opening of the home means the future of L’Arche North Bay is alive and well.
“We’re a small organization and here we are part of a community in an established neighbourhood and celebrating our presence.”
“Celebrating folks with intellectual disabilities and saying you know we have something to offer our community.”
L’Arche North Bay President Nancy Peverley says it was exciting times for everyone involved with L’Arche and that the new home wasn’t necessarily in the organization’s short term plans, but they are happy to see the end results.
“Along with several other organizations we didn’t meet the current fire code and it just came as a sudden surprise.”
“So we were updated until the new one came in and then it was like a scramble what do we do now. So the ministry came through and Monique Smith’s office was very good in helping secure the funds,” Peverley states.
