Nipissing University is pulling one of its online Lakers women's basketball announcers after one commentator made a "nice stroke for a girl" comment after Lakers player Megan McCarter hit a three-point shot during a game between the Lakers and the Queen's Gaels on Saturday night at the Robert Surtees Student Athletics Centre on campus at Nipissing University.

Bridget Mulholland, a Gaels women's basketball player was the first to go to social media to react to the comment.

"Nice stroke for a girl," stated Mulholland on Twitter.

"I have no words Nipissing Lakers. Do better."

The tweet, which includes the highlight clip with the comment from the broadcast, was sent out around 4 p.m. on Sunday night as had more than 22,000 views on Twitter by noon on Monday.

On Sunday around 9 p.m., Nipissing University responded to the situation.

"Nipissing University and the Nipissing Lakers are aware of the hurtful and inappropriate comment made during the broadcast of the Women's Basketball game this weekend," the University stated via Twitter.

"The comment made does not reflect Nipissing University and Lakers values of dignity, kindness, and respect. The individual who made the comment has apologized and will no longer announce for the Nipissing Lakers."

The University did not identify the name of the broadcaster who made the comment.
