In a short series, details matter.
That's what Lakers varsity women's hockey coach believes about best-of-three playoff series'.
Turcotte's Lakers hit the ice tonight against the York Lions to begin the second round of the OUA playoffs at Memorial Gardens.
"It is tough to have a 24-game season and then have such a short series but that is the way it is so you just have to be ready at puck drop," said Turcotte.
"Our mentality is that every shift matters, it does not matter if it is the first shift of the game or the last shift of the game."
The Lakers punched their ticket to round two after dispatching the Queen's Gaels in two straight including a dramatic come-from-behind OT win in game two as the Lakers took that series in two straight.
"York is going to be a really physical series for us and we know what to expect," said Turcotte.
"We do have a young team but we have responded pretty well to different directions on different teams we have played this year and we expect them to do the same this series."
Brianna Gaffney and Katie Heppner lead the Lakers in the playoffs offensively with four points in round one, while local product Danika Ranger has been solid in goal with a stingy 0.50 goals against average and a sizzling .976 save percentage.
"On the scoresheet, the Dominico sisters and Brianna Gaffney and Heffner have had great starts to the playoffs but realistically it has been a great team effort from everybody," said Turcotte.
"We have got good goaltending and our defence has been solid. We basically had all four lines going so it has been a great start and we just want to keep that ball rolling."
Game two of the series will take place at York University on Saturday, February 29 at 2:15 p.m., and if necessary, the two squads would come back for a third and deciding game on Sunday, March 1 at Memorial Gardens.
