Knife and novelty sword used in weekend attacks

The accused became frustrated grabbed a novelty sword and attempted to stab the victim in the chest

It was a weekend that saw kitchen knives and swords as the weapons of choice in North Bay.

Earlier we told you of an attempted murder using a knife.

Now, North Bay Police are releasing details of two other assaults in North Bay over the weekend in which edged weapons were used.

Late Friday night police were called to a residence in the south end of the city where an argument had occurred between two family members.

The argument turned into a fight and a man then picked up a kitchen knife and began waving it around in an aggressive manner trying to stab the other family member.

Other relatives were able to subdue the attacker until police arrived.

As a result, a 26-year-old North Bay man has been charged with one count of "Assault with a Weapon."

He was arrested and taken to police headquarters where he was later released and will appear in court July 10.

The victim was not injured.

Then this odd one.

On Saturday police were called when a novelty sword was used in an attack.

Police say shortly after 3 a.m. North Bay Police rushed to a residence on John Street where two women had been arguing.

One woman had become irate and made a death threat to the other woman. The victim tried to calm the situation and walked away but the first woman became frustrated, grabbed a novelty sword, and tried to stab the victim in the chest.  The victim was able to deflect the sword and call police.

When Police arrived the swordswoman was arrested and a search revealed a baggie containing approximately 11.5 grams of marijuana.

A North Bay woman is charged with;

  • One count of Assault with a Weapon
  • One count of Utter Death Threats,
  • One count of Possession of a Controlled Substance, and
  • One count of Breach of Probation.

She was held in custody pending a bail hearing today.

In both cases, police say In order to protect the identity of the victims, the North Bay Police Service will not be releasing the name of the accused.
