The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (Health Unit) has declared the COVID-19 outbreak at the North Bay Jail over, as of July 12, 2021.
The outbreak at the North Bay Jail was declared on June 22, 2021. In total 43 individuals tested positive in connection with the outbreak.
As of the weekend, four more COVID-19 cases have been reported including one more death, which brings fatality number in the region due to COVID-19 up to 7.
No new cases have been reported today.
As per privacy policies, the Health Unit has not confirmed if that death is related to the Jail Outbreak.
Last week the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit noted that it will no longer send out news releases reporting COVID-19 deaths.
"While the Health Unit feels that every death due to the COVID-19 pandemic is tragic, we are making efforts to avoid sensationalizing these events," said Dr. Carol Zimbalatti, during last Thursday's Health Unit online media event.
"Moving forward we will no longer be disseminating news releases when individuals have passed due to COVID-19."
