Ice Follies takes place on Lake Nipissing on the waterfront.

Ice Follies will be back this winter and organizers are asking artists to put in their submissions by November 4th.

The group is an ad-hoc collective that presents a biennial festival of contemporary and community-engaged art just off the waterfront on frozen Lake Nipissing.

Ice Follies is seeking proposals for new public artworks in any medium that can be displayed in an outdoor location.

It's part of the 10th Anniversary edition of the Ice Follies Biennial taking place from Feb 10 – 24, 2023.

"The theme 'Thin Ice' looks at our shifting landscapes and communities, including our changing relationships with our environment and each other," according to its Facebook page "The projects that will be chosen for this festival will reflect Ice Follies’s 2023 theme, as well as showing a strong understanding of the situational and contextual considerations for presenting contemporary artworks outside on a frozen lake in February, such as safety and ecological issues."

COVID caused cancellation of the event last year.

"After careful consideration regarding the health and safety for everyone in our community – our artists, our volunteers, and our longtime Ice Follies attendees – the Ice Follies presenting organizations have made the difficult decision to postpone the 10th Ice Follies Biennial, scheduled for February 2022. We are very disappointed that we are unable to hold this event for our fans and supporters, but we know it’s the right decision based on the information we have today."
