The ministère des Forêts, de la Faune et des Parcs is reminding non-resident hunters that they must purchase a moose hunting licence before midnight the night before the opening of the firearm hunting season.
The licence must be used for hunting with a firearm in a free territory or a ZEC without a hunting sector limited by quota.
These regulatory changes regarding the acquisition of moose hunting licences for non-resident hunters ensure that the latter are now subject to the same regulations as resident hunters.
Under the new regulations, it is forbidden for all hunters—both resident and non-resident—hunting in free territory or in a ZEC without a hunting sector limited by quota to use a moose hunting licence purchased after the opening of the season.
However, resident and non-resident hunters participating in a quota hunt in a wildlife reserve, a quota-limited sector of a ZEC, or engaging in their hunting activities with exclusive rights (PADE) may just as well use a licence purchased after the deadline of the opening of the firearm hunting season.
In addition, hunters without exclusive hunting rights (PSDE) may purchase a licence at any time or use a valid licence purchased after the deadline to participate in a hunt.
Nevertheless, the hunting area listed on the licence must match the area in which the outfitting operation without exclusive rights is permitted to offer its services.
Finally, hunters having previously hunted in a ZEC, a reserve, a PSDE, or a PADE may then hunt in free territory in the area listed on their licence using a licence purchased after the opening of the season.
Non-resident hunters are subject to certain other restrictions regarding the purchase of hunting licences and their presence in certain territories or hunting areas depending on the game being hunted.
