How you can give health care workers a special holiday gift

NBRHC's Chief of Emergency Medicine gives some helpful tips on how to stay healthy and how to avoid having to make a holiday trip to the hospital

In the video above, Chief of Emergency Medicine Dr. Taylor Lougheed takes a few minutes to meet with the local media at the North Bay Regional Health Centre. Dr. Lougheed offers some helpful tips on how our community can stay healthy during the holiday season and avoid unnecessary visits to the Emergency Department.

In early November, NBRHC announced it was experiencing an "unprecedented surge" in patient volumes resulting in a "bed crisis." Potential patients were told to experience extremely long waits.

A couple of weeks later, plans for a new Alternate Hospital Facility poised to open early next year at the site of the old J.W. Trusler public school were made public. NBRHC will operate the newly renovated facility at a cost of $9.8 million. The province will be spending $7.3 million to support this expansion.

Dr. Lougheed is no stranger to BayToday readers, having appeared on our pages numerous times advocating for change to address the family doctor shortage, physician burnout, and the entire health care system.
