The Algonquin Barons won the NDA Senior Football title on Friday night with a 36-11 win over the St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Bears at Mike O'Shea Field at the Steve Omischl Sports Complex Friday night.
"It’s surreal," said Ryan Desbiens, Barons head coach.
"The first back to back senior title in out school’s history! We are still trying to let it sink in," he continued
"Our boys came to battle today. We lost arguably our best player and certainly most explosive threat Kaleb Grant (#11) on the first drive of the game with an injury, but it didn’t faze them.
"Everyone picked it up and played harder. It was absolutely awesome to see. I can’t say enough about the character of this team."
Aden Dionne and Ryan Smetana had two touchdowns each to lead the Barons offensively.
Justin Marietti had the lone major for the Bears.
Last fall, the Barons won their first NDA senior football title since 1981 as they knocked off the St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Bears 24-3.
The Barons will now move on to NOSSA and face the winner of the Sault Ste. Marie versus Sudbury winners semifinal which takes place on Saturday.
