UPDATE: The MTO has indicated Highway 17 has re-opened around 6 p.m.

The Ontario Provincial Police are reporting that Highway 17 is closed between Highway 531 and Rutherglen.

Reports indicate that a grass fire broke out in the area and has now spread onto a residential structure in the area.

“A grass fire has turned into a structure fire,” stated OPP Constable Shonna Camirand via video on Twitter.

“There is heavy smoke in the area, please stay away from the area. There is a detour through Bonfield.”

No word if anyone has been injured or if there has been any evacuation called in the area.

The grass fire was first reported around 3:30 p.m. today.
