The North Bay Heritage Railway and Carousel Company will be launching the 2015 season officially at 4:00 p.m. this Friday.

Operating hours will be Fridays 4:00 p.m. until dusk and Saturdays and Sundays 10:00 a.m. until dusk (weather permitting) for the railway which includes a pair of carousels along North Bay’s waterfront.

The facility will be open full-time as of June 22nd, however they are already taking a lot of bookings from schools and day cares across the area for the month of June.

Don Coutes, the Heritage Railway and Carousel Company Treasurer,  says the smaller carousel closer to Memorial Drive has had some upgrades.

“We installed sliding doors so it makes it easier to close especially on windy days so hopefully the small carousel will be open more on various shifts with the sliding doors now,” said Coutes.

The facility is celebrating its 22nd season and Coutes adds that its fitting that more people with railway backgrounds have shown interest in volunteering this summer

“There are a lot of railway men from the ONR, CN and CP who helped actually put it together,” said Coutes noting there are plaques around the track recognizing some of those who have helped out in the last 22 years.

“It’s great to keep the lineage of the ONR and the railway people with volunteers helping us out.”

Coutes mentioned they still have some room for any students who need volunteer hours over the summer.
