Heritage Railway closed for 'several weeks'

'We expect to get these operational matters resolved over the next several weeks'

The Heritage Railway and Carousel Company is temporarily closed effective today due to "operational matters" says a news release from the group.

"We expect to get these operational matters resolved over the next several weeks. Once resolved, we will let the public know when we will be re-opening," it says.

The 30th Anniversary Celebration that was to occur on Saturday, August 3 at the trains and carousels is postponed.

"We will let the public know the new date as soon as possible."

The celebration was supposed to focus on the efforts of hundreds of volunteers who changed the look and feel of the North Bay Waterfront.

The dream of two men, former mayor Stan Lawlor and local dentist Rod Johnston, to create a miniature railway and preserve the heritage of rail in North Bay, became a reality on July 29, 1994, with the official opening of the Heritage Railway Company.

"We apologize for this temporary closure and look forward to seeing our loyal customers in the future," says Don Coutts, Treasurer of the Heritage Railway and Carousel Company.
