The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit is reporting another COVID-19 related death in the region.

It is the fifth COVID-19 related death since the beginning of the pandemic in March of 2020.

"The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit is saddened to report the passing of an individual in the Nipissing district who tested positive for COVID-19," a release stated late Friday afternoon.

"This is the fifth COVID-19 related death in the Health Unit’s district since the beginning of the pandemic. Out of respect for the individual’s family and friends, no further information will be provided."

Dr. Jim Chirico, the Chief Medical Officer of Health, expressed his deepest condolences to the individual's family and friends.

"My thoughts are with them at this difficult time,” shares Dr. Chirico.

“COVID-19 is very much still present in our district, and every loss is devastating. Everyone must continue to protect themselves and others by following public health measures and getting fully vaccinated.”
