It appears things are moving rather smoothly so far with the vaccine rollout within the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit.
Despite being behind some other regions in the province due to COVID-19 vaccine availability, the area health unit is using the vaccines in an efficient manner and confirmed to BayToday that not a single dose has been damaged or wasted throughout the process.
"The Health Unit has been utilizing a standby list since we began immunizing to ensure no vaccines are wasted," stated Alex McDermid, Pubic Relations Specialist with the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit in an email to BayToday.
"To date, we have not wasted a dose due to having no one to immunize."
Mayor Al McDonald also noted that he has been getting positive feedback about the vaccinations taking place locally at North Bay Memorial Gardens.
"I am hearing from a significant number of seniors and family members about how efficient and pleased they are with our mass vaccination centre at Memorial Gardens," said McDonald.
"I would like to recognize the great work by City staff and health unit staff at the centre. The feedback includes how friendly and helpful they are to putting people's concerns at ease, the amount of assistance and making them feel comfortable. Well done everyone."
According to McDonald, a total of 16,181 doses within the entire region have been given out.
He estimates the district percentage of individuals with at least one dose in the Health Unit District is between 12.8 and 14.3 per cent.
