It will be kind of cool but the weather may include some light snow but likely will not stop Halloween Trick or Treating in the North Bay area tonight.

The North Bay Police are reminding residents to have common sense when traveling on Halloween night.

"For the kids and the families, it is a great time of year," said Mike Daze, North Bay's deputy police chief.

"The weather is good right now, it will be a little bit cool but we want everyone to have fun. I think it is just important to recognize that it is really really busy out there so take our time driving on the streets if we are out and around. Be extra cautious that we may have young trick-or-treaters who are darting in and out of houses or across the streets so it is just vigilancy and watching what we are doing."

SAFETY TIPS for Trick-or-Treaters & Parents:

  • Parents should accompany their children while trick-or-treating until children are old enough to travel in groups with friends. If your children are trick-or-treating without a parent present, make sure there is a travel route and curfew time in place.
  • Trick-or-treaters should avoid long, flowing costumes that could cause them to trip. Make sure costumes are brightly coloured and consider adding reflective strips to costumes to increase visibility.
  • Avoid wearing masks or decorative glasses that restrict or block vision.
  • Trick-or-treaters should look both ways before crossing the street and only cross at designated crosswalks.
  • Trick-or-treaters should only travel through well-lit areas and only visit houses with lights on. Never go inside a home or inside someone’s car.
  • Always examine your children’s treats before they eat them. Dispose of any treats that appear to have damaged or open packaging. Avoid eating homemade treats from strangers as it can be difficult to ensure they are safe.

SAFETY TIPS for Adults:

  • Motorists should be conscious of the increased number of pedestrians out and about on Halloween night. Children can be unpredictable and may enter roadways in an unsafe manner. Be extra vigilant when driving on Halloween night and watch out for trick-or-treaters.
  • If you are attending a Halloween party, make sure you keep your drink with you and in clear view at all times. Do not accept a drink from someone unless you saw it being made.
  • Always drive sober. Make sure you have a designated driver or call a taxi or rideshare to keep yourself, pedestrians, and others on the road safe.

Places to go

For families who would prefer to take their children to fun events on Halloween night, the North Bay Battalion will be handing out candy at North Bay Memorial Gardens from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The North Bay Fire Department down the street from the arena on Ferguson and Victoria/Princess, will host a Halloween Night for Kids. Next door at the North Bay Police Headquarters on Princess Street, they will be handing out good bags to trick-or-treaters.

A Halloween Reptile Camp show will also take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Northgate Shopping Centre.
