Seven local non-profit organizations collectively received more than half a million dollars between them today.
Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing made the funding announcement of more than $550,000 at the North Bay Golden Age Club in North Bay on Friday morning.
Fedeli says seven local non-profit organizations got the funding which came through the Trillium Foundation's Resilient Community Fund and the Ontario Art Councill.
Fedeli believes the funding makes a difference to help organizations get on a path to success.
"We look at each and every application, these ones stood out above and beyond, they scored high so they were entitled to the money and we make sure we bring it home here to the north," said Fedeli during the media conference Friday morning.
"We do fight hard for each and every group and that is the role of a member of provincial parliament is to make sure that when funding pots are announced we fight hard.
“Local organizations like the Nipissing Regional Curatorial Collective and Les Compagnons enrich the lives of people in Nipissing, while playing an important role in building a strong and prosperous Ontario economy,” said MPP Vic Fedeli.
Fedeli says the Ontario Trillium Fund’s Community Resilient funding will help local non-profits deliver the best service possible.
The fund provides grants of up to $200,000 over two years to eligible non-profit organizations to build capacity, resilience and sustainability. Local recipients of this funding include the following:
- $171,500 for Victim Services of Nipissing District
- $169,000 for Les Compagnons des francs loisirs
- $123,500 for Community Living Mattawa
- $36,900 for Nipissing Regional Curatorial Collective Incorporated
The Ontario Art Council is the primary funder of the professional not-for-profit arts sector in the province. Itsmandate is to foster the creation and production of part for the benefit of all Ontarians. Local funding includes the following:
- $15,000 for the Pakinewatik Collective for their Indigenous Arts Project – To write an original narrative feature-length film script and prepare this script for pitching and production.
- $12,500 for the Nipissing Regional Curatorial Collective for the 10th anniversary of the Ice Follies
- $12,000 for the Capitol Centre to support a city-wide music showcase of local artists titled 'Local Love' as part of our Bluesfest festival in September 2023.
- $12,000 for the On the Fringe Festival to support the coordination, promotion and presentation of their 10thannual festival in North Bay.
David Spence, executive director of Community Living Mattawa says they are excited to receive the funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
“it will provide us with an opportunity to upgrade and modernize the organization’s technology," said Spence.
"It will give our employees the tools they need to continue to provide excellent service and it will generate learning opportunities to the people we support, which will lead to greater independence, inclusion, and participation in our community.”
Kathleen Jodouin, executive director, Victim Services of Nipissing District. is equally as grateful for the new money.
"We look forward to contributing to the resilience and well-being of our community through these transformative initiatives funded by this grant," said Jodouin.
"With this grant, we will develop a training and policy resource library, update staff policies post-pandemic, conduct professional development sessions for our staff among other resiliency-building initiatives. We are grateful for the support provided by MPP Fedeli and the Ontario Trillium Foundation in enhancing our programs and services."
