NORTH BAY, Ont. — In a battle of curling royalty, Brad Gushue came out on top in the final of the Pinty's Grand Slam of Curling Boost National 2022 at Memorial Gardens in North Bay, Sunday.
Both Gushue and Niklas Edin came into the final undefeated at 6-0 on the week and the game was a back-and-forth affair. Gushue stole one in the first but Edin got that back in the third. Edin took the lead for the first time with a two-ender in the 5th. Gushue stole one in the 7th to go up 4-3 and after Edin tied it in the 8th, Gushue won it in an extra end 5-4.
Gushue, now a 14-time Grand Slam champion, says it feels really good to get the win.
"We got a little bit lucky when Nik missed a shot in the 8th that he probably makes 80 per cent of the time. We'll take it as we missed some shots. These things even out but we're pretty happy."
He says it's great to win after losing in the final last time.
"I thought both teams were deserving of a win today. There were a lot of really good shots and roller coaster ends. It had to be entertaining for fans. We put on a really good show."

He says, jokingly, the team wants to be very diverse so everywhere they play they're considered fan favourites as EJ Harnden is from "nearby" Sault Ste. Marie.
"Seriously, it's a great crowd in North Bay. They've been very kind to us in the two times we've been here. We appreciate it and it doesn't hurt having a northern boy on your team."
