NDP candidate for Timiskaming-Cochrane John Vanthof and Henri Giroux for Nipissing say that Andrea Horwath and the NDP have the best plan to strengthen schools and invest in education that will benefit families in Northeastern Ontario.

The two candidates made the announcement at a press event together in New Liskeard on Thursday.

Andrea Horwath and the NDP’s plan for change for the better in education including eliminating EQAO testing, fixing aging schools, hiring more teachers/staff, and putting a moratorium on school closures.

Horwath received an endorsement from the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) today showing that the only choice for families in Northeastern Ontario to build better schools and help students thrive is the NDP.

“Teachers feel supported by Andrea Horwath and think her plan is the best to deliver the education that our students need in Northeastern Ontario,” said Vanthof.

“After 15 years of Liberal government, teachers have grown tired of cuts to education that left kids in crumbling schools with fewer resources here and across the province.”

“Teachers and parents know they don’t have to settle between bad and worse anymore,” said Giroux.

“They don’t have to go from Wynne’s cuts and closures to Ford’s plan for more cuts and closures.  Together with educators, we will do better for students, children and families in our communities.”
