As Halloween creeps up on us, we're all gearing up for a howling good time! But before the tricks and treats commence, it's essential to remember that safety should be a top priority for families and kids alike.

Watch an OPP Halloween safety video here.

The folks at MAVERICK Public Relations have brewed up a cauldron of top Halloween safety tips to keep your readers and their little ghouls and goblins safe while enjoying Halloween night:

1.     Costumes that Sizzle (Safely): Safety first, witches! Make sure costumes fit snugly to avoid tripping hazards on this magical quest for candy. And while there will be many mini firefighters, ensure costumes are flame resistant.

2.     Glow Up with Reflective Flair: Deck out your costumes and treat bags with reflective tape or accessories. Shine bright like a jack-o'-lantern!

3.     Follow the Yellow Brick Road: Grab your trusty flashlights, or even better, some eerie glow sticks to light your way on your candy crusade. Stay on the sidewalks and use crosswalks when crossing streets. Keep those broomsticks parked safely!

4.     Supervise Your Little Monsters: Keep an eye on your little trick-or-treaters. Kids under 12 should have a responsible adult ghoul or ghost by their side.

5.     Parents deserve treats too: Check Candy Cautiously. Examine all treats for tricks, allergens, or any spooky surprises before your kids make them disappear.

6.     Stay Hydrated: For this sugar sprint, remind trick-or-treaters to stay hydrated by bringing water along.

7.     Emergency Plan: Make sure your little witches and wizards have identification with contact information just in case they wander into a haunted forest.

8.     Mask Magic: If wearing masks, ensure they have proper ventilation and good visibility. Consider makeup or face paint as a safer alternative.

9.     Safe Haunts Only: Remind kids to only visit well-lit houses and to skip houses that look spooky or unsafe.

10.  Plan for All Weather: Be prepared for unpredictable weather. Bring umbrellas for rainy nights and dress warmly for chilly

Together, we can make this Halloween a fantastic and safe celebration for everyone! 🎃👻🍬
