The price of a litre of regular gas surged to a record price today, smashing through the two-dollar barrier at area gas stations.
That's up 12 cents since yesterday.
However, at 3 p.m. Tuesday Gas Buddy was reporting gas selling for 175.9 at Necessities on Highway 17 West just outside city limits. That's 25 cents a litre cheaper than in the city proper.
Crevier at 555 McKeown Ave. is selling for $2.06.6.
Gas prices have been rising steadily for months, in the wake of Russia’s decision to invade Ukraine.
Dan McTeague of Gas Price Wizard says prices are hitting records across the country and blames political decisions.
"Be it the (many) so-called carbon taxes imposed provincially and federally, the regulatory and administrative burdens on new infrastructure builds, or the onerous standards imposed on our resource extraction and use, political actors of all stripes are making costs higher," he says.
And he warns, "Most Canadians will soon get their next monthly round bills: electricity and natural gas and propane and heating oil. All of these will be higher too."
He offers tips on how can you improve your gas mileage.
