The 2025 Polar Plunge is being called a "fantastic success" by the organizers.

The event took place on Saturday in the parking lot of the NUSU Student Centre located on College Drive across the street from Nipissing University and Canadore College.

The North Bay Police Service organizes the event as they continue their long-standing tradition of supporting Special Olympics.

Participants jumped into an icy-filled container provided by Canor Construction as part of the festivities.

Constable Merv Shantz, Polar Plunge Committee Coordinator, was thrilled to see them surpass their financial fundraising goal in 2025.

“This community never ceases to amaze me," Shantz told BayToday via text.

"The outpouring of support for Special Olympics from event sponsors, volunteers, donors, and of course, plungers, was just incredible. We had around 180 jumpers and raised just over $48,000, which is unbelievable for a community our size! A huge thank you goes out to all those who made this event a success once again."

Anyone wishing to donate can do so at the Polar Plunge website.
