Art on Main sports two new window exhibitions.

Kerry Fry, oil and watercolour painter, is February’s feature artist.

Born in Toronto, Fry studied commercial art in George Brown College, graphic illustration at Sheridan College and returned to school mid-career to earn a BFA at the University of Lethbridge. Fry travelled extensively before residing in the Yukon for 20 years. She has exhibited work in numerous art shows, including a solo exhibition at The Bowman Gallery in Lethbridge in 2000. Her work is in private art collections throughout North America. Currently, Kerry Fry has been inspired by her hundred-acre farm near Astorville, Ontario.

Kerry Fry’s large paintings explore the places she’s come to love. In storybook fashion, she pushes and pulls a narration from her surroundings; there is nothing bleak or remote about her connection to the land. Contained in a world of its own, her landscapes are filled with secret paths and hidden inhabitants.

“Winter Circus” is a tribute to that wonderful winter celebration that only wildlife have invitations for,” Fry says.
“Snow Shrouds”, the largest piece in the exhibit, is based on Fry’s suburban backyard when she lived in Lethbridge, Alberta, and depicts a transformed yard after a freak May snowstorm. The final piece in the exhibit is titled “Trail to the Big Apple Tree” and was inspired by a small herd of Belgian horses feeding on a hilly, boulder-studded pasture near Powassan. Fry daydreamed about a horse paradise where the boulders were transformed into apples. Each of Fry’s pieces has hidden detail that is discovered after close inspection of her work.

“The Art of Romance” is Valentine’s Day themed exhibition in the second window. “The Art of Romance” explores the sensuality of art and provides inspiration for gift ideas for that special someone at this time of year. This exhibit features work from most of the artists at Art on Main. “The Art of Romance” exhibition can be viewed until Valentine’s Day.

Kerry Fry’s exhibit can be seen at Art on Main until March 5th. “The Art of Romance” can be seen until February 19th.

Art on Main is a collective of emerging and established local artists dedicated to creating and sharing exceptional work in a variety of media. This commercial gallery is open Tuesday – Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
