North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA), in partnership with the Province of Ontario, the City of North Bay and the Municipality of Callander, has recently completed new and updated floodplain mapping.
This mapping has been developed to identify areas at risk for flooding during major storm events and to guide future planning and development within the City of North Bay and the Municipality of Callander. Floodplain mapping plays a crucial role in understanding and managing flood risks. It is based on modelling that predicts flood flows and their potential impact on our community. This mapping helps determine flood depths, elevations, and other essential information for minimizing property damage and protecting life.
NBMCA is one of 36 Conservation Authorities in Ontario responsible for watershed management on behalf of local municipalities, stakeholders, and the province. NBMCA was founded in 1972 by the Province of Ontario and the NBMCA’s member municipalities.
Floodplain mapping was completed for Chippewa Creek, Parks Creek, and Jessup’s Creek in North Bay and Lansdowne Creek in Callander. To review the maps, click here.
The NBMCA is hosting a series of public information sessions to share the results of the floodplain mapping project. This is an opportunity for residents and property owners to learn more about the mapping process, ask questions, and provide feedback.
A public consultation period runs from Jan. 20 to Feb. 20. There are four public information sessions scheduled during the public consultation period:
